Andrina is a short story written By Jennifer Bassett. Andrina is set on the island of Orkney. After years at sea, Captain Torvald has returned to live alone in a cold dark house. In the previous autumn, he met a twenty-year old girl called Andrina and she now comes every afternoon to help him. But one day at the end of February, Torvald starts to feel very ill and Andrina doesn’t come to his house as usual. After several days, he realizes that Andrina has stopped coming. On the last afternoon that Andrina came to the house, Torvald talked of how fifty years ago he had once loved a poor young girl called Sigrid. But the girl had become pregnant and he had run away from her and gone to sea. Andrina seemed shocked by the story.
